The Flipflopi Toolkit
Recycling solutions for remote communities

The collection process

Our collection process is made up of three steps:

1. Community engagement

The Flipflopi Project runs a buy-back programme with the local community.

To raise awareness of the opportunity, we:

  • Engage town criers
  • Use posters
  • Hold public forums (baraza’s)
  • Run group engagement events

You can read more about our approach to engaging the community here. [Link to Community engagement]

2. Community collections

We organise plastic collections from mangrove and beach clean-ups, town clean-ups, dumpsite clean-ups, door-to-door collections and directly from businesses.

3. Delivery of plastic

Finally, we transport all the collected plastics to our Materials Recovery Facility, where we sort and process the plastics. [Link to Sorting and Processing plastics]
