Define your value proposition
All businesses provide value to their customers. Plastic recycling businesses also provide social and environmental value. This section will help you define your value proposition.
Identify the problem you are solving
Start by identifying the specific waste management challenges in your area. For example, inadequate waste collection, illegal dumping, or a lack of recycling facilities.
Offer a solution for that problem
Explain how your business provides a solution to the problem, such as providing plastic waste collections, processing, and recycling services.
Define your social and environmental impact
Clarify how your enterprise benefits the community through job creation, reduced pollution, or enhanced sanitation.
How the Flipflopi did it...
The Flipflopi Experience
This is how we developed our value proposition at The Flipflopi Project:
The problem
No plastic waste collections on the Lamu archipelago; market value of plastic is too low to cover the costs of a collection service.
Our solution
Provide plastic waste collections; increase the value of the plastic by transforming it into attractive furniture and other household products; and sell at a higher price than the value of the plastic alone. Use this additional income to cover the cost of collections.
Social and environmental impact
Increase awareness and engagement with the local population regarding plastic pollution; reduce plastic pollution; provide income-generating opportunities for community members involved in plastic waste collection and processing.
